Usage component. Allowance refreshes weekly; after it runs out, top-offs or wait. Third-party models (Claude, GPT) are not in the pool and bill by usage from prepaid credit.

How credits/tokens work. One pool across Cursor and Grok Chat/Imagine/Voice/Bot; usage cost varies by product. Grok API access included but billed separately at standard rates.

What changed in 2025–2026

Jun 2025: Pro moved from 500 fast requests to $20 of usage at API rates; users hit limits after a few Claude prompts and were charged overages; 4-7 Jul 2025 CEO Michael Truell apologised ('we didn't handle this pricing rollout well') and offered refunds. Oct 29 2025: in-house Composer model launched (cost lever). Reported gross margin of -23% in the quarter to Jan 2026. 16 Jun 2026: SpaceX agreed to buy Cursor for $60B (closed 14 Aug 2026). 12 Oct 2026: legacy Pro $20 / Pro+ $60 / Ultra $200 / Teams $40-$120 replaced for new users by X Subscription tiers; existing users can keep legacy plans.

What you can steal

  1. Pricing

Cursor's 2025 lesson is that changing the unit of value (requests to dollars) without clear warning feels like a price rise even if the price is unchanged. Its 2026 lesson: an AI wrapper paying its model supplier more than its revenue has to either own a model or be owned by someone who does.
